Kellogg's is voluntarily recalling honey-flavored cereal because of a potential health risk
Company Announcement
Kellogg's today announced a voluntary recall of 15.3 oz. And 23 oz. packages of Kellogg's ® Honey Smacks ® cereal (with code dates listed below) because these products may contain Salmonella. This recall does not affect other Kellogg's products.
Immediately after being contacted by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) about the reported illnesses, Kellogg began investigating third-party manufacturers of Honey Smacks.
According to the CDC, consuming or eating food contaminated with Salmonella can cause serious illness. It can result in serious infections, which can even be fatal, in small children, old or fragile persons, as well as other individuals with compromised immune systems. Healthy people infected with Salmonella may develop fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. The majority of people recover without therapy, and the illness typically lasts four to seven days. In rare cases, a Salmonella infection can cause the organism to enter the bloodstream and cause more serious illness.
